When you see database permission warnings about dbcreator and VIEW SERVER STATE for the lansweeperuser account, these should not be ignored if you intend to use the auto‑update feature. Without these rights, the auto‑update service cannot safely roll back the database if an update fails, which is exactly what the warning explains.

Below are the required prerequisites, step‑by‑step actions, and how to verify the fix.

Prerequisites

Make sure you have:

  • Lansweeper version: Lansweeper On‑premises 12.3.2.2 or later is required for auto‑update.
  • Permissions
    • A SQL Server login with sysadmin rights on the SQL instance that hosts lansweeperdb.
    • Windows administrator rights on the server(s) running:
      • Lansweeper Server service
      • IIS Express or World Wide Web Publishing Service (IIS)
      • (If present) Lansweeper Auto‑update service
  • Tools
    • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) installed on a machine that can reach the SQL instance.
    • Access to the Lansweeper web console.

Instructions:

Follow the steps described in this article.

Alternatvily, you can assign the permissions manually:

  • Open SSMS and connect to the SQL instance hosting the Lansweeper database.
  • Go to Security > Logins and locate Lansweeperuser.
  • Right-click the account and select Properties.
  • Under Server Roles, check dbcreator.
  • Under Securables, add the server if missing, then locate View server state and tick Grant.

After applying these changes, restart the following services to ensure they take effect:

  • IIS Express (or World Wide Web Publishing Service)
  • Lansweeper Server service

Once completed, the permission-related errors should no longer appear in the Lansweeper web console.

Verification

To confirm the issue is resolved:

  • Check the auto‑update page:
    • Log in to the Lansweeper web console.
    • Go to Configuration > Auto‑update.
    • Confirm:
      • The warning about dbcreator / VIEW SERVER STATE for lansweeperuser is no longer shown.
