Learn how to install and configure Lansweeper for efficient IT asset management in just a few simple steps.
Follow the steps below to install and configure Lansweeper Sites to provide insights in your IT asset environment.
1. Verify requirements
To begin, verify your system meets Lansweeper's requirements.
- Windows domain scanning requirements
- LsAgent installation requirements
- Linux and Unix agentless scanning requirements
- Apple Mac scanning requirements
- Network device scanning requirements
2. Install Lansweeper Sites
Follow our training guide to determine which install path is right for you. This will help you decide whether you require an easy or advanced installation, and walk you through the installation steps.

3. Add your first Windows credential
Add a Windows credential to access additional information about your Windows assets.
- In your Lansweeper Site, go to Scanning > Credential vault > Default credentials> Add default credential.
- Select Windows > Add credential.
- Enter a name to identify the credential.
- Enter login information. This can be in the following format:
- Domain credentials: Use a down-level logon name, such as NETBIOS (username), domain name (domain\username), or a User Principal Name (UPN) like username@yourdomain.local.
- Local credentials: Use the format .\username.
- Microsoft accounts: Use username@outlook.com.
- Enter a password.
- Select Save and exit.

4. Rescan your targets
Now that you've added your Windows credential, rerun your scan targets to discover the latest information.
- Go to Scanning > Targets > Scan all targets.
This might take a few minutes, depending on your network size, asset types, and amount of assets.
5. Run your dashboard
To ensure your dashboard shows the latest and most accurate data, refresh the reports on the dashboard.
- Go to Dashboard > General overview.
- Select Run all board reports (top-right corner).
This might take a few minutes.
Once the dashboard is updated, you can review the various reports on your dashboard to learn more about your environment.
6. Get more accurate insights
Want to improve the accuracy of the insights provided? Follow these quick tips:
- Rescan your asset: Check when an asset was last scanned at the bottom right of its summary page. If you need updated data, select Rescan asset.
- Optimize device ports for scanning: Ensure the following ports are open to smoothly retrieve data from Windows devices:
- 135/TCP: DCOM to establish the initial WMI session with the computer
- 139/TCP: NetBIOS Session Service
- 445/TCP: SMB
- 1025-5000 or 49152-65535: Random ports for sending WMI data
- Review scan requirements: Ensure you maximize your scan results by reviewing the requirements!
