I'm not sure what your use case is, but in a semi-related capacity we are using cron jobs on a Linux system to send an email to Lansweeper for creation of weekly tasks. I'm considering using it as well to create annual reminders of system/software maintenance renewals (which I always forget about). So, that being said - you could likely use a calendar app and an appointment to send out a reminder email which would generate the ticket.
