Crap. I see why it's not working:
- The Windows computer must have all three of the following: a MAC address, model and serial number.
- The MAC address, model and serial number must be retrievable from the machine itself. Rename detection cannot work if you manually submit the model or serial in Lansweeper for instance.
We almost always build custom machines here, so we are stuck with losing history and manually deleting assets when we rename machines, which happens a lot.

Pardon the interruption, but there is a way to brand custom built machines. Due to a number of reasons, we build all our desktops and use an AMI utility (AMIDEWINx64) to brand them. It allows us to write a bunch of System and Chassis values for Mfg, product and serial number that are all stored 'permanantly' on the mainboard. Lansweeper picks them up just fine.
Finding the utility can be hard as heck at times, but once found, it works well.

You can work around this by renaming them in Lansweeper before or right after you rename the device itself (before scanning them). A manual rename in Lansweeper will update the asset unique identifier.
