Lansweeper can scan any asset that meets the scanning requirements. However, when devices connect remotely through a VPN, you may encounter scanning issues.
What is happening?
VPN connections typically have specific security settings and restrictions that can impede a successful asset scan. This can be frustrating and hamper your IT management efforts.
Now what?
The good news is that you can address these VPN scanning issues relatively easily by using LsAgent.
LsAgent is a versatile scanning agent compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac computers, which allows you to scan devices locally, ensuring a more reliable and secure scanning process.
Once LsAgent has scanned your computer, there are two options for sending the scanning results:
- If the device is connected to the LAN, the scanning results are sent directly to the scanning server.
- If the device is connected via a VPN, the scanning results are sent to a relay service running in Azure. The scanning service can then connect to the relay and retrieve the results.
You can find detailed instructions on how to set up and use LsAgent in our Introduction to LsAgent.
