Can someone explain how Servers are categorized within Lansweeper? 

What drives the discovery of this asset type,

You'll want to review Lansweeper documentation on how it functions with its discovery process. Best bang for your buck is going to start with leveraging the Asset Radar due to the fact that you'll be forwarding all network communication to whichever Scan Server you deem appropriate. After Asset Radar, you can leverage LSAgent, LSPush, SNMP, SSH, Domain Creds, Integrators, etc. Naturally, giving Lansweeper the ability to actually log into the device will yield the most results. But Asset Radar and LSAgent provide a very large amount of useful information. WMI can be very useful as well. Depends on the visibility and functionality you desire.
