Lansweeper Tech Support
Lansweeper Tech Support

Last year we already wrote about dropping support for several SQL Server and OS versions. The final chapter is ending soon.

On March 1st, 2023, Lansweeper will end support for these SQL Server and OS versions.

To make sure that you will still be able to upgrade your Lansweeper installation without issue, please review if your installation meets these requirements:

  • Database: SQL Server 2014, SQL Server Express 2014 or higher
  • Database: built-in SQL Server LocalDB
  • Desktop OS: Windows 10 version 21H2 or higher
  • Server OS: Server 2012 or higher

You can refer to our installation requirements blog post for a detailed list of requirements.

Are your SQL server and operating system hosting Lansweeper still up to date? Great, then you're all set!

If not, now what?

No worries, you can easily migrate Lansweeper to a new server by following the instructions in our migration knowledge base article.

Please note that the scanning requirements will remain unchanged. You can find more information on these changes in our installation requirements blog post.

Bummer...
One of the main characteristics of OT (Operational Technology) networks (more specifically DCS) is the long lifecycle of the systems, sometimes 10 years or more. Many (really many) DCS are operated using Windows 2008/Windows 7 servers and operator stations (I even have seen older environments in the field). As these networks are very segregated, you need to install a separate Scanning Server in each DCS network.

So this would basically mean that we won't be able to install the latest LS version anymore. I just hope LS will then provide a download link to older (stable) LS releases that do support an old OS, or support Scanning Servers running an older LS version.

Thanks for expressing your concern.
To guarantee the best quality on supported systems and finish the QA validation in a timely fashion, we need to focus on operating systems and database servers which are still supported (through extended support) by their manufacturer (Microsoft).
Once the new Lansweeper installer is released, we'll still provide a legacy download link to the last Lansweeper release that still works on these unsupported operating systems and database servers, as we do for LsAgent.
This will give you the choice to either perform new and upgrading installations on supported machines or still deploy new installations on EOL systems.
