Is there a way to exclude guest VM that are off?  We want to avoid having templates or idled VM in our database.  We can exclude HyperV guest totally but I would be interested to see if could keep VM who are online.

Dear,

In that case, you can only set exclusions based on asset type or IP addresses. Unfortunately, checking first if an asset is available and then excluding it is not possible.
In your scanning targets, you can also check if the option "don't ping" is not enabled. If this is the case, then only assets that respond to a ping will be scanned.
