My LS Server service does not start after a reboot.  Manually starting also does not work, until I run configeditor and save (no changes made).

My theory is that configeditor reads and stores the config in memory, thus allowing the service to start.  Otherwise, the service is unable to load configuration.

Does anyone know what would break this functionality?

I have been having this issue for years and have tried using Suport a couple times.  My hope has been that an Upgrade would fix it, but so far it has not.  This is more of an annoyance than a problem.  I'm not really interested in rebuilding, etc.  Which was one Support recommendation.  That's too much work for a minor annoyance.

Hi Bill,

Have you tried reinstalling the scan service to see if this would resolve the issue.

  • Take a backup of your installation to be safe: https://www.lansweeper.com/knowledgebase/backing-up-your-installation/
    • You will, at the very least, need Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper\Key\Encryption.txt
  • Connect to your Lansweeper server.
  • Stop the Lansweeper Server service if it's set to Running.
  • Run the installer again.
  • Hit Next, accept terms, etc.
  • Select New installation
  • Select Advanced and select:
    • DataBase Type
    • Uncheck New Lansweeper Database and New Lansweeper Website
    • Check New Lansweeper Service

Hit Next and input your SQL Server instance, input a database user with access to the database.

  • Hit Next and select your existing Lansweeper installation folder
  • Click Install
  • When the install completes:
    • Replace Program Files (x86)\Lansweeper\Key\Encryption.txt with the backup file you took
    • At this point, if all went well, your scanning service should successfully start, at which point it will begin updating your database, which should take a few minutes at most.
